| Many members possess four-wheel drive vehicles of various types. Each member carries a basic equipment kit in his vehicle to
guarantee self sufficiency in remote areas and to cater for any vehicle recovery
situations. All Basic, Intermediate and Advanced members are issued with alphanumeric pagers
operated from ZERO 2, the 24 hour Farmwatch control
room run by Omnipage in Somerset West. Most member's four wheel drive vehicles are equipped with VHF mobile radios operational on four repeater and one simplex channel. Many members also have access to a number of additional channels which are used during various SAR operations. An Emergency Response Trailer containing additional communications, medical and support equipment is stationed at the Helderberg Fire Station for hasty deployment. We have a caravan which has being converted into a Mobile Incident Command Unit. This will also be stored at the Helderberg Fire Station. |
