"To provide
a Professional and Efficient Volunteer Search and Rescue Service, on call 24 hours a day
to assist Emergency Services, Volunteer Agencies and the Community during any Emergency or Disaster
Situation".

Role &
Duties
- To perform such duties as, but not limited
to, Logistic Support, Off-Road Transport, Communications, Search & Rescue, Emergency
and Disaster Services, e.g.:
- The transport of personnel and
equipment in any weather, over difficult terrain to and from staging or pickup points; the
transport of relief and emergency supplies; evacuation of casualties to ambulance or
helicopter loading points; assistance with logistical tasks.

- Radio net management; message handling; the
setting up of a Communications control centre in any area; relaying of messages to and
from Search and Rescue teams and their command centres; to communicate with various
organisations on land, sea and air.
- The management of Search and Rescue
operations; resource management; establish and manage Search base operations; staging
points et al.
- To assist in emergencies other
than wilderness incidents where logistics, transport, communications and rescue services
are needed, such as fires, floods, natural and man made disasters, and civil emergencies.
- To foster, co-ordinate and
encourage excellence in Volunteer Search and Rescue.
- To promote safety in wilderness
recreation.
- Be able to respond to incidents in
the Western Cape at very short notice. To respond with a few hours lead time outside of
this area up to a line drawn from the Kalahari Gemsbok Park to Port Alfred.
Membership & Training
- To maintain an active group of volunteers,
trained and equipped for wilderness search and rescue missions.
- To train these volunteers to be
proficient in the skills required to carry out the duties specified above so as to be able
to function competently within a multi-disciplinary multi-organisation team on any
operation.
- To ensure that all members are adequately
trained to acceptable standards in their various fields thereby ensuring a professional
service.
- To nurture and utilise other
skills and qualifications that members may have as and when required, e.g. administration,
diving, first aid, fund-raising skills, medical, mountaineering, people skills, piloting,
public relations, teaching etc.
- To enable each member to feel
valued and able to contribute at whatever level they are.
